But Never Beyond Nature

Robert Green Ingersoll, the great freethinking orator, once spoke of all the gods that humans make.

“Beyond nature [humans] cannot go even in thought–above nature [humanity] cannot rise–below nature [humanity] cannot fall.”

Reminds me of something a Philosophy teacher told me years ago:

“We’re told that God created humans in God’s image.  And we’ve returned the favor ever since!”
