Our world is seeing an in-credible (choosing my words carefully here) explosion of faith. Buses, cars, buildings, houses, towns, nations. . .bodies. Lots of bodies. An explosion of bodies. And minds. Minds. Blows your mind, doesn’t it?
Not so by-the-way: I taught a class on Islam this week. Read quotes from the Qur’an and the Sayings of Muhammad such as,
“None of you truly believes until you love for another that which you love for yourself” (Hadith 40:13)
and this quote, from a bloggerfriend in Lebanon:
“People here don’t read much. . .
Religion is a machine gun over here. People bomb and kill each other in the name of religion. . .See my friend, religion here has become politics. People do not pray to their God any more, but they pray to their political yet religious leaders.
About Islam, I would acknowledge the religion as I acknowledge Buddhism and Christianity as a faith of peace and love. Islam is a religion of peace, and yet no Muslim is applying its real beliefs.
“Like Jesus said,
‘But I say to you that hear, Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who abuse you. If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners love those who love them. And if you do good to those who do good to you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners do the same.’ Luke 6:27-32″
These words stunned the class. This juxtaposition of the Teachings of Faith and the Theatrics of Faith. . .the disastrous drama.
Blows my mind.
